Tampa Bay
Museums
Museums can be a great way to present information about historical and cultural events. For example, when going to a "Titanic Exhibition," one could see and feel closer the tragedy they went through. By seeing things in a more personal way, through pictures, movies, artifacts, etc, students can understand better their stories and perspectives.
My plan is also to take students to visit the Dali Museum in order to understand better this famous Spanish painter.

Hospitals
Hospitals can be a place where kids can volunteer to help. Teachers can take students to read stories to sick children or to play games with seniors. This activity can help children create a sense of empathy.
Universities
At local universities and colleges, you can find guest speakers who may volunteer to go to your school or may agree to have a Skype session with your children. I still remember when an USF professor went to talk about the "Great Wall of China" with my son's class. The children gets more engaged when different speakers can come and talk to them. It also helps them on analyzing different perspectives.
Charities/service projects
Take Action. Students can find places where they can volunteer with their class and teacher, or individually. If they can't go to help this place, they can choose to donate or promote one of the charities.
Sports- Tampa Bay teams
Learning about different sports, rooting for teams, learning about rules and disciplines, all these factors can be learned when going to a game or calling guest speakers to talk about their sports and related subjects. My 2nd graders loved when a famous Jai Alai player came to present and talk about this sport not so well-known to children now. Also, I have been teaching games around the world, and it's a great activity to compare our favorite games with their favorite games. Does culture play a part when choosing our favorite sports/games?
