DIA DE LOS MUERTOS- 4TH GRADE
Students learned about new perspectives when studying how the "Day of the Dead" is a big celebration. They watched videos and documentaries, and then they created their idea of a great "Day of the Dead." They even created their own altars to honor family and friends who had passed away. Check their presentations on Padlet:
Hispanic Heritage month- 5th grade- wax museum- kids chose a hispanic celebrity. They created a PP, a chatter box and a kahoot about the celebrity. Then, they dressed up and presented their characters to parents and friends.
Immigrants and refugees
After watching movies and documentaries and reading articles about both crisis: Syria and Central America, students created a word cloud here in Padlet and also on their art classes representing the feelings these children were going through and also their own feelings about the situation.
Other projects and ideas:
1. Video Pal with a school from Brasil - 3rd and 4th grade students compared their likes, dislikes, food, games, etc. through videos.
2. Skype- Many classes had Mystery Skype activities throughout the year. Also, 3rd graders had a partner school in Argentina, students Skyped with these students and also communicated with them through Edmodo. The best was when students competed with their partners in Argentina by playing Geo Kahoot.
3. Tradtional games - 2nd graders learned about some typical games from Hispanic Countries, such as "Jai Alai." "Pato", "Juguemos en el Bosque."
4. Pre-k-to 1st grade learned a lot of traditional songs and rhymes from Hispanic countries.
5. I used a lot of literature from Hispanic countries, a big hit was "El Monstrous de Colores" by Annallena - España
6. Guatemala- 3rd grade students created a virtual trip to Guatemala. Each group had to choose a different city to go. Then we watched and discussed the documentary "Living with one dollar in Guatemala." This year, I am planning to create a virtual game with simulations based on a TPT game with the same name.
7. Top Chef- 4th graders studied typical food from Peru, then they presented their Peruvian recipes during our "Top Chef" day. They had to create a recipe that mixed both Peruvian ingredients as well as American ones.
